The Marantz SR-6015 is handsome. Its sleek, minimalist aesthetic will match well with just about any home theater setup. The receiver has a sturdy build that seems to be able to handle bumps and bruises when moved around.

Features

What separates the Marantz SR-6015 from other A/V receivers are the extra features it comes with, for its price range. The 6015 comes with Bluetooth technology; an HDMI input available for online movies; Chromecast which allows you to stream your music, video, or picture library (through chrome browser) on your TV screen; Spotify which you can use via Chromecast or Airplay; Pandora Radio; Internet Radio stations; SiriusXM Satellite radio (requires separate subscription); Digital Media Port for Apple devices and a USB port which allows you to plug a thumb drive into the receiver.

Sound Quality

The sound quality this receiver produces is very good. It gets excellent reception when picking up on different channels in real-time with no lag or distortion when switching between them. On my particular television, there were some issues getting optimum sound quality through the optical port but I was able to fix this by running an ethernet line from my router to the receiver and then hard wiring that into my television (gave more data and bandwidth and cleared up some of the issues).

Ease of Use

This receiver is pretty easy to use overall. The included manual helps with allowing you to hook everything up correctly but it isn't always intuitive. The basic operation of this receiver doesn't really have any problems, when it comes time for more advanced set-up options though, there are a lot of settings in menus where you risk getting lost if you don't know what you're doing beforehand so being prepared with any manuals or having someone knowledgeable around will help.

The Marantz SR6015 is an excellent choice for your home theater audio needs. It has a ton of features, a sleek design, and is easy to use.

Performance

The Marantz SR-6015 is powerful – 450 watts per channel (8 ohms at 1kHz, 0.08% THD, 2 ch driven). If you're familiar with A/V receivers you'll know that most offer 120 or 160 watts per channel. The 6015's extra power handling ability gives it an advantage in performance over other receivers within its price range.

This extra kick makes it excellent for people who are looking to power surround sound speakers in their living room. It has an analog amp to DTS Neo X surround decoding which makes the surround sound performance of this receiver clear and crisp.

If I'm not mistaken, the DTS Neo X surround decoding is one of the best surround sound decoders available on an A/V receiver. If you like your music loud, this receiver will deliver without too much distortion. The Marantz SR-6015 won't win any awards in regards to its "sound quality", though; it's just not that refined or punchy when listening to music.

Versatility

You can stream your music or video library with ease through the 6015's wireless technologies. The receiver is also compatible with Apple devices, which include iPods, iPhones, and iPads. This option is great for people who want to play their iTunes music collection on their home theater set up without having to connect anything extra to the Marantz SR-6015.

Connectivity

This receiver has a good amount of inputs you can use to connect your devices to it. It has 5 HDMI inputs, 4 of which are on the back panel and one that is on the front panel. The Marantz SR-6015 also has 3 component video inputs; 2 optical audio input; 1 phono input; 4 USB inputs; coaxial digital input (PCM only); FM antenna input; AM antenna input; 7.2-channel analog input (RCA).

The included remote control is quite handy with having most of the features available at your fingertips. Additionally, my favorite feature for this receiver is its dual subwoofer outputs – an excellent option if you're looking to upgrade to a larger subwoofer.

Value

This receiver has a lot of great features for the price. Not only that but it also seems to offer good value when it comes to sound quality and overall power output. Compared to other receivers in its price range, this model is a steal with all the benefits it offers in terms of ease of use and sound quality that goes above and beyond the standard level, you would expect from a home theater setup that isn't going to break your bank account. This product definitely deserves 9/10 stars when taking its quality into account along with how affordable it is.

Pros & Cons

  • Pros:
  • Powerful sound with good power handling;
  • Wireless music streaming through Bluetooth or Chromecast;
  • Lots of inputs to connect your devices; Dual subwoofer outputs
  • Can handle more power than other receivers in its price range
  • DTS Neo X decoding option (should be comparable to Onkyo's excellent surround sound technology)

Cons:

  • Doesn't offer the best quality when listening to music; doesn't seem to do much for what it costs, but then again it was not intended for that purpose.
  • No 3D Pass-Through
  • Included remote control is a bit clunky and could use some improvement.

Conclusion

The Marantz SR-6015 offers a lot of features that will integrate well into your home theater setup. If you're looking to take full advantage of the surround sound capabilities this receiver has to offer, then the SR-6015 is definitely worth taking a look at. Its versatility and the extra power make it perfect for those who want to upgrade to a 7 channel amplifier without having to sacrifice much space or power – which can be costly if you decide to go with an external amplifier system.
