Optoma CinemaX P2 Review

Design

The design of the Optoma CinemaX P2 is probably its biggest downfall.

From a distance, it looks like a sleek and modern projector, but up close it’s evident that the “sleekness” is just due to compromises made in order to get to the price point they set for this model.

Don’t get me wrong, I actually think it has a good look – if you want your projector to look more like an appliance or something along those lines. If you prefer your projectors to have some flair or sleekness, then back away from this one! The case on both sides is plain silver plastic which isn’t terrible but on my unit at least there were noticeable seams where the front panel meets with side panels – not the best look.

Picture Quality

The picture quality of the CinemaX P2 is actually really good for its price point! I was surprised.

I have it set up in a dark room and am using it to project onto a white wall and the image is bright, clear, and has great color contrast. Black levels are also pretty good – not as good as some higher-end models I’ve seen but better than most projectors in this price range.

Overall, I’m very happy with the picture quality and would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable projector that doesn’t sacrifice too much in terms of quality.

Sound Quality

The sound quality of the CinemaX P2 is just okay. It’s not terrible, but it’s also not great.

I was hoping that with its two 5W speakers it would be a little louder and have a bit more bass, but unfortunately, that’s not the case.

If you’re going to be using this projector in a room where you can’t really crank up the volume or don’t mind using external speakers, then that’s not really an issue. But if you want something that has good sound quality without having to use additional speakers, then you may want to look elsewhere.

Features

4k/ HDR picture quality

The CinemaX P2 features 4k and HDR picture quality, which is great for a projector in this price range!

Most projectors in this price range don’t feature 4k or HDR, so it’s really nice to see that Optoma included it in the CinemaX P2.

This makes it a great option for anyone looking to upgrade their home theater setup without spending too much money.

Full HD/SDR picture quality

The CinemaX P2 also features Full HD/SDR picture quality, which is great for anyone who doesn’t have a 4k TV or doesn’t want to use 4k content.

This makes it a great option for anyone who wants a good quality projector without having to pay extra for features they may not use.

3D support

The CinemaX P2 also has 3D support, which is great for anyone who wants to watch 3D movies or play 3D games.

This makes it a great option for anyone who wants a projector that can do it all.

Brightness

The CinemaX P2 has a brightness of 3,000 lumens, which is great for a projector in this price range.

Most projectors in this price range have a brightness of 2,000 lumens or less, so the CinemaX P2 is definitely a step up in that regard.

This makes it a great option for anyone who wants a bright projector that can be used in a variety of settings.

Best support to Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant

The CinemaX P2 also has the best support to Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, which is great for anyone who wants to control their projector with their voice.

This makes it a great option for anyone who wants a projector that is easy to use.

Overall, the Optoma CinemaX P2 is a great projector for its price point. It has good picture quality, sound quality, and features, making it a great option for anyone looking to upgrade their home theater setup on a budget.

Reasonably good gaming mode

The CinemaX P2 also has a reasonably good gaming mode, so this makes it a great option for anyone who plays games on their projector.

This makes it a great option for anyone looking to upgrade their home theater setup without spending too much money.

Connectivity

The connectivity of the CinemaX P2 is good but could be better.

It has a variety of ports including HDMI, VGA, and AV inputs as well as a headphone jack and an SD card slot.

However, it does not have a port for connecting to a computer so if that’s something you need then you may want to look elsewhere.

Also, the included remote is infrared rather than Bluetooth which can be a bit of a pain if you’re not sitting right in front of the projector.

Overall, the connectivity is good but could be better.

Performance

The performance of the CinemaX P2 is good for its price point.

I have it set up in a dark room and am using it to project onto a white wall and the image is bright, clear, and has great color contrast. Black levels are also pretty good – not as good as some higher-end models I’ve seen but better than most projectors in this price range.

Overall, I’m very happy with the performance and would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable projector that doesn’t sacrifice too much in terms of quality.

Ease of Use

The CinemaX P2 is actually very easy to use! There aren’t many buttons or settings to worry about, and the on-screen menu is very straightforward.

I did find that the projector can be a bit slow to start up at first, but once it’s up and running it works just fine.

Overall, I’m really happy with how easy it is to use and would recommend it to anyone who doesn’t want to deal with a lot of complex settings and menus.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Good picture quality
  • Many features included
  • Easy to use
  • Low price point

Cons:

  • Sound quality could be better
  • No port for connecting to a computer
  • Remote is infrared rather than Bluetooth

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Optoma CinemaX P2 is a great value for the price. It offers good picture quality, sound quality, and features while remaining affordable. Its connectivity could be better, but if you don’t need to connect it to a computer then it shouldn’t be much of an issue.

I would definitely recommend the CinemaX P2 for someone who is looking for a projector that’s simple and easy-to-use offers great value and doesn’t sacrifice too much in terms of quality.
